Dr. Camille Lacroix: with a dual background in chemistry and biology and after a PhD in marine ecotoxicology during which she studied the impact of pollution on marine organisms, Camille Lacroix joined Cedre where she is now in charge of the "Aquatic waste monitoring and studies" department. The main missions of this department are to provide scientific and technical support to the authorities in the implementation of actions to reduce waste in aquatic environments and to develop knowledge on this pollution.

Coastal pollution by foamed polystyrene
Foamed polystyrenes are used in a wide range of applications because of their diverse properties. Some of these materials are now being found in the environment, particularly in the marine environment, which raises the question of the associated impacts on marine ecosystems. In 2018, a European OceanWise project (https://www.oceanwise-project.eu/) led by the Portuguese Ministry for the Environment and bringing together 13 European partners, was funded with the aim of proposing solutions to reduce the presence of foamed polystyrenes in the North-East Atlantic. As part of the project, a state of knowledge on this pollution was carried out. This presentation presents the knowledge acquired by Cedre as part of this project on the presence of foamed polystyrene on the European coastline and the associated risks.
